The sentence types

I was seven years old on a troopship heading to the Phillippine Islands. This is a simple sentence because this sentence only has one subject-verb combination, dependent clause.(p1)

I had time for one gleeful thought of triumph as we zipped to a point almost exactly in the midle of the lake. This is a complex sentence because it has one depent clause( I had....triumph) and one independent clause( as we.... lake)(p9)

I remember sitting in my old truck in Elpaso, Texas, thinking that I was done, had no future, and the thought popped in out of nowhere that if I did not see water soon I would die. This is a confusing sentence because it has so many " that", compound- complex sentence.(p5)

I had wind, the boat was moving and I smiled as I calculated that I would be making more than a hundred miles that day and would undoubtedly be home sometime the next morning. This is a compound-complex sentence because it has three depent clauses ( I had....smiles) and two independent clauses( as I ....morning)(p68)

" to do that, I would need a boat"(p 7) , that is how the author start his sailing in his life. When we need to do something , we should have the main point. He want to see and know the oceans so what is the main point? " A boat" is the main point.
